Cibo

Cibo is one of my all time favorite restaurants. I have continuously went back and forth to this restaurant since forever. I dunno why I never get tired of this place. Well, I guess they serve really good food. Moreover, their menu is selection of very healthy dishes. So, its the season of lent now and summer has already started. We decided to eat in Cibo, Greenbelt for our break since we know they serve good food and they serve dishes with no meat in them.

Uva Nera Red Grape (php 119)
Since its burning hot here in Manila, we decided to order refreshments which could make us less feel hot. So we ordered the red grape shake. It's really one of the best shakes here in the metro. It was really blended well and you can guarantee that what you are drinking is really fresh. The bits of grapes are really felt inside the mouth.

Te Freddo Iced Tea Menta Mint Syrup (php 88)

The mint iced tea is one of my favorites here in cibo. I feel so refreshed while drinking this drink. It really refreshes my feeling. You get both the minty feeling and the sweetness of iced tea. If you love mint, you could ask for extra mint syrup if it is not enough for your taste buds.

La Familia Spaghettini All 'Alfonso (php 573)
For our main course, we ordered la familia spaghettini all 'Alfonso. In the menu, the pasta is supposed to be rigatoni but we had it changed to spaghettini. I like it better this way because its easier to eat for me. This pasta contains shrimps, chives, stewed tomato, chili peppers and cream sauce. It also comes with bread. This is ultimately my favorite pasta ever since. The noodles of the pasta is al dente. The sauce is very rich with flavor and something you would not get tired of eating. You'll just want to get more and more serving. Th tomatoes are sweet and blends with flavor of the pasta well. On the other hand, I control myself in eating shrimps because I really have bad allergies from seafood.

Filleto di Pesce (php 383)

We ordered another main course, fileto di pesce. Its pan grilled fish fillet with mushroom pilaf and we chose pesto for our sauce. I suggest that you don't order this dish. It lacks flavor. The fish was perfectly cooked but there wasn't enough salt or flavoring to taste.

Definitely, I'll go back to Cibo, it is like home to me. The ambience of the place is something familiar. It is a cozy restaurant wherein you could chill and eat good food. You should try their mango pannacotta for dessert. It is really a must try.

Va Bene Pasta Deli

It has been a long time since I last blogged. I’ve been quite busy lately with school. Anyways, so a few weeks ago, I was able to try Va Bene Pasta Deli. It is currently in the top picks of Esquire magazine. The restaurant is small and it gives a homey feeling. I went there to eat lunch. So first up, we had free appetizers.

The dip's ingredients are combined perfectly. The bread on the other hand wasn't that toasted. It was still soft. It could've been much better if the bread was perfectly toasted. You could ask the waiter for more if the appetizer is not enough. After finishing 2 servings, our order was already served.

Pan Roasted Foie Gras (php 780)

So for the appetizer that we ordered, antipasti as they call it there, we had pan roasted foie gras. It came with portobello ravioli and onion marmalade. The foie gras was heavenly! It was perfectly cooked. It was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. The rest of the dish wasn't that remarkable. I personally didn't like the combination of the ingredients. If you eat the whole thing in one bite it would be a bad idea. The ravioli wasn't that good. The marmalade was too strong and sour. It is best to eat the foie gras separately. Surely, it would be worth every bite.

Potato Gnocchi (php 390)

So for our main course we had the potato gnocchi with pumpkin bacon sauce and prawns served with melted mozzarella cheese. It was my first time to try eating gnocchi and I wasn't disappointed. It would be more fun and tasty if they add more bacon bits. But bite after bite there's this feeling of getting used to the taste and you don't want to eat it anymore (umay in Filipino).

Organic Eggs Tagliolini (php 380)

For our next main course we had organic eggs tagliolini with portobello mushrooms, white wine cream sauce and truffle oil. Mamou > Va Bene for the truffle pasta. I super loved the pasta of this dish. They make their own pasta from scratch i think. It was very chewy to nibble on. I loved the texture but the sauce of the pasta wasn't that salty. there wasn't much flavor. The  dish was also too saucy. The ratio of the pasta and the sauce weren't in the right proportion.

Strawberry Panacotta (php 130)

Finally, for dessert we had strawberry panacotta. It is also available in mango. The strawberries were fresh. I really enjoyed eating the strawberries. The panacotta wasn't that good. It was so-so. Cibo and Italiannis have the best panacotta for me and this is nothing equal to that. Overall, we enjoyed eating here. I think that we weren't able to order the right dishes. Va Bene Pasta Deli often changes its menu so until our next visit.

Nav-Modern Thai Cuisine

Its Monday, the start of the week. So to start off the week right we decided to venture and try out a new restaurant. We decided to try Nav-Modern Thai Cuisine. It was something spontaneous so pardon my pictures they were just taken from a phone.

So here's a picture of what could be seen inside the restaurant. The ambience of the place was really great. It had a different feel. It really captured the real essence of being thai. We ordered then we waited for a while then our food came. The waiting period isn't that long. Its quite fast actually. So for our first order, Pad Thai.

Nav's Pad Thai (php 280)
I was quite hesitant in ordering the pad thai because I hate nuts being mixed with other kinds of food. But luckily, you could order it separately. Upon ordering you should request to separate the nuts from the pad thai in this way others could have an option whether they would want it with nuts or not. The pad thai was great! It was full of flavor. The combination of the ingredients were perfect. It brought out the real flavor of the pad thai.

Green Curry, Chicken, Bamboo Shoots (php 240)

So curry again! Obviously, I wasn't the one who ordered this but this time around the curry was perfect according to Chester. He liked the curry now.
Nav's Bagoong Rice, Fixings -Khao Krok Kapi (php 225)

The bagoong rice was divine. I was super craving for bagoong rice for the longest time and this was something that really fed my cravings. It was delicious. The combination of the mangoes, chili, egg and spring onions mixed with the rice was just perfect. I really loved the rice. It wasn't too salty as well. You could really taste the bagoong in the rice as well.
Wok-Fry, Chicken Strips, Ginger (php 225)

Last but not the least we ordered the wok-fry, chicken strips, ginger. This chicken dish was cooked differently. It was out of the ordinary fried chicken or chicken teriyaki we know of. The taste was also different in a good way. It tasted milky maybe because of the ginger. Overall, we really loved Nav! We would definitely go back to eat here. The dishes they serve taste like authentic thai cuisine. It is something not ordinary to our taste buds. We really enjoyed eating here I really recommend this place for you guys to try you would definitely not regret it.

Ukokkei Ramen Ron

We decided to eat at Ukokkei Ramen Ron for lunch this Tuesday. We wanted to eat something light. We arrived there around 12-ish so the place was really full of people. So were seated by the bar instead of the individual seats. Below is a picture of what the display in the bar looks like. After ordering the waitress handed us with wet towels to clean our hands and to get ready to dig in after a few minutes.

We only waited for a few minutes for our food to come out. So Ukokkei is a ramen place. They have 3 varieties of soup bases. Namely, Shoyu, Shio and Miso. I went for Shoyu which is soy sauce based. As for shio, it is salt based. So, my order came out first!

Ukokkei Shoyu Koumi (php 330)
I ordered the soy sauce based because I wanted to eat something simple. I also wanted to be safe with my order. The ramen was served super hot. It's perfect for a rainy weather. The ramen had spring onions, bean sprouts, garlic and the pork. The soup was oily but its delicious. Its my perfect bowl of ramen. The noodles were also al dente and chewy. The soup was also full of flavor. Its not too salty or too bland. The mixture was perfect.

Curry Rice (php 280)

I didn't order this dish. Chester was the one who ordered this. Sad to say but I don't really eat curry. Well, according to him you shouldn't order this dish. He said that the meat was really tough to chew on. Bottom line is just don't order this and stick with their ramen.

Yaki Gyoza (php 120)

We also ordered their gyoza to chew on something while eating their ramen. I love to eat gyoza! Their one of my favorites. Well I have to say that their gyoza was really appetizing. It was good to munch on every bite. It doesn't look good in the picture but once you taste it, you'll love it. This dish has a make your own sauce. Mix the soy sauce, vinegar and the chili oil which can be found on the table.

Ukokkei Miso (php 300)
Since the curry was a fail, we decided to order the ukokkei miso. Everything was the same compared to the previous ramen. The soup base was just the different one. This ramen tasted garliky. The flavor was also perfect to eat. The miso soup base wasn't the one that settles at the bottom and something you'll mix in order to get the right consistency back. Overall, we liked Ukokkei Ramen Ron. We would go back to this ramen place for sure. Lastly, they don't serve dessert :(

Mamou

Last friday we decided to eat at Mamou, Rockwell. We were in the area so we decided to eat there. The ambience of the place was very cozy and it felt like something awesome would touch your mouth. The restaurant was bright. After we ordered, we were served with free bread.

The order didn't take that long to arrive. The first order that came up was our appetizer. It was the cracked cheese with fuet and honey.

Cracked Cheese with Fuet and honey (php 295)

I'm not that fond of eating cheese like these. I like the square ones that could be bought in supermarkets only. But surprisingly I didn't hate this one. I kind of enjoyed munching it and dipping it in honey. It had a salty, cheesy and sweet mix. I liked the fuet more because I'm a meat lover! (HAHAHA) Dipping it into honey made it a lot better and tasty. It was a burst of flavor all together. Well, for this dish I think the honey made everything a perfect combination. Next up, our pasta was served.
Lorenzo's Truffle Cream (php 335)

This pasta is the best truffle oil pasta I've ever tasted. I highly recommend for you guys to try this pasta. It is just full of flavor that you couldn't resist to have some more. It didn't have toppings. It was just plain truffle cream. That is why it is very strange how flavorful it tasted without the toppings. But well it did taste perfect. The noodles were also al dente. I assure you that once you have tasted this you'll ask for more. It is something that girls would crave for.

Duck Adobo Flakes (php 295)

For our next order, we had duck adobo flakes. We had it with scramble egg and garlic rice. They offer choices but we opted for scramble egg and the garlic rice. I liked this dish. It was also a perfect combination. But it was oily. Nevertheless, it was a good choice. The duck adobo flakes weren't that distinct when it comes to taste. Overall, it wasn't that bad. It is still enjoyable to eat.

Beer Battered Fish with Malt Vinegar (php 255)
This was our last order. The beer battered fish with malt vinegar, tartar sauce and potato wedges. Personally, I think this was a fail order. If we would have a choice we could have gotten something else. It was edible but there's no "WOW" factor. It didn't taste like it had beer batter. It was crunchy though. But it didn't taste right. It lacked salt and peper to taste.

Overall, I would recommend Mamou as a restaurant that you should try. The ambience of the place is cozy. The food is something that you should try. They have good food. The price is also affordable. Well, not for their steaks. You should try it and see for yourself. Thanks for stopping by. Below would be the number to call for reservations. It is highly recommended to reserved beforehand because a lot of people really eat here especially during the weekends.

Mann Hann

So today, I ate at Mann Hann branch in Greenhills. I often eat here with my family if we can't think of anywhere else to eat at. Mann Hann offers affordable and quality food. So for our drink we ordered the honey lemon tea. Its like iced tea only less sweet. The taste was just right.
honey lemon tea 1L (php 110)

Next up, we ordered yang chow fried rice, beef noodle soup, hakaw, chilled tofu with century egg, beef brisket in pot and sweet and sour pork. It wasn't a long wait for the food and when it arrived it was really hot and perfect to eat.
Yang Chow Fried Rice (php 250)

The Yang Chow Fried Rice was perfect. It was tasty. The flavor was just right. The ingredients were picked to complement each other.

Sliced Beef Noodles (php 195)

The sliced beef noodles wasn't that salty. The noodles were perfectly cooked. The beef was tender to chew on. This noodle soup didn't taste like "vetsin". The soup was perfect to drink with the rice.

Hakaw (php 95)
The hakaw was just normal. It wasn't that special. I didn't like it that much because the wrapper of the dumpling was kind of thick. But the shrimp inside was just right. This goes with the soy sauce, calamansi and chili sauce.
Sweet & Sour Pork (php 250)

The sweet and sour pork wasn't that good in this branch. Normally the pork would be crunchy. But this wasn't. It tasted like it was full of breading. This wasn't what we have expected. The last time we ate in Mann Hann the pork was perfect.
Beef Brisket in Pot (php 265)

Meanwhile, the beef brisket was also good. It was very tasty and the beef was really tender. This dish also had tendon parts which what completed the dish. The sauce was tasty as well and full of flavor.

Chilled Tofu with Century Egg (php 120)

I'm not that fond of eating tofu so I cannot say that much about this tofu. Chester who ordered this dish says that :

"The tofu was yummy. Compared to the other tofu that I have eaten, this was the only tofu that had spinach on top instead of spring onions. The tofu was also silky." I just ate the century egg in this dish.

So here's what we ate for our merienda today. Hope you guys would enjoy this post. Mann Hann is definitely a restaurant I could recommend. The food is not something that wears off. It is something that you'll crave for. Moreover, the price of the food is really worth it. I also recommend buko sherbet for dessert, Oyster Cake and Lechon Macau.
